About the Author
A. Ravve received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Utah in 1950, and was Post Doctoral Fellow at both the University of Michigan (1950-1951) and Iowa State University (1951-1952). He worked for 28 years with Continental Group, Incorporated, mainly as a Research Manager, and subsequently as Senior Consultant in syntheses and utilization of polymeric materials. He also taught evening courses in polymer chemistry at several institutions of higher learning in the Chicago area, from 1960-1991. Currently he does consulting in polymer chemistry.

Buy this book only if you are forced to!

I bought this book because it was the prescribed text for a class I took. It doesn't tell you anything in detail other than what you already know and keeps reffering to journal papers for every little thing. The organization of material is haphazard, and its very dificult to read through the list of names that keep appearing. Anyone who wants to understand Polymer chemistry, please look for some other book.This looks like the work of someone who has obtained a long list of papers on polymers and has written whatever he could gather from a glance at them, and did not even bother to proofread it once.

Absolutely loved this book. Gabriel is a man among men.
Not interested in skinny whiny little girls, Gabe has found his world wrapped up in a curvacious older woman
Lauren is 40,10 years older than Gabe, the victim of an abusive marriage and a woman with very low self esteem
When Gabe and Lauren meet fireworks are sure to go off.
Her marriage is over, she walks out and into the arms of a man, Gabe, who shows her nothing but love and respect.
Once they really get together the sex is amazing......
Being an Aussie made this book extra special as it's based in and around Melbourne and there's Aussie slang used throughout - someone I don't come across every day.

The more I read of Gabe and Lauren the more that I fell in love with them.
Their relationship is built on honesty and, once again, phenomenal SEX!!!!
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book.
All the characters in it are brilliant.
Once again Lesley Jones you have written a phenomenal book....Congratulations!!!!

Welcome to a beautiful series written by Lesley Jones, known for Carnage.. Saviour and Resolution are compelling. The series starts off with Lauren. Married but abused, she finally musters the strength and courage to leave her abusive spouse and start to live the life she deserves. Enter Gabriel, a true angel in disguise. He shows Lauren what it's like to truly be loved and works on bringing her self esteem back to where it should have been. Lauren is in her mid 40's, has been abused most of her married life and has two adult sons so she feels as if she has nothing to offer. Gabe shows her otherwise, while battling his own demons. However the abusive ex-husband is not out of the picture.

Resolution picks up right where Saviour left off. We get to find Lauren trying to determine where and what she wants out of life. Gabe wants Lauren forever, but she's struggling with the idea of marriage. This story is a dramatic follow up to Saviour and is well written. Both stories suck in you in. You won't want to put the books down.

I highly recommend this series. Lesley Jones is a wonderful author. You won't be disappointed !

A Fantastic Love Story!

I read this series over a year ago and it is my absolute favourite, I admit to rereading it, it is the story I return to when I need the perfect read.
Gabe is a sexy Aussie surfer, he is the perfect mind, kind,sincere, loving, sexy...what more can you ask. Lauren is a 40 something woman with stretch marks and a mummy tummy, with attitude. She is in need of a safe secure life after she can no longer live with her increasingly violent husband.
The story is an emotional roller coaster of a story and like all Lesley Jones stories she will suck you in and hook you, you will laugh cry and not be able to put it down.
A must read.

This excellent addition to material on the early years of the CIA covers the heyday of the Cold War, from the middle 1940s to the middle 1960s. The book focuses on the careers of four operatives: Frank Wisner, Richard Bissell, Tracy Barnes, and Desmond FitzGerald, all of whom helped guide the covert actions and growth of the CIA. Bissell was best known owing to his involvement in the Bay of Pigs fiasco, but Wisner, as the early director of covert operations, was the key figure in the agency's early history. All four appear to have been more interested in the big operation, which could go spectacularly wrong, than in the slow process of intelligence gathering. Much of this same material is covered in Burton Hersh's more critical The Old Boys: The American Elite and the Origins of the CIA (LJ 2/15/92). The author, a managing editor at Newsweek, also co-wrote The Wise Men (LJ 10/15/86), which was similar in approach. Recommended for espionage collections of public and academic libraries.?Daniel K. Fascinating...disturbing

This is an interesting insight into the early days of the CIA. Essentially, all the stories of the "good-ol'-boys" networks and philandering are true. The read, however, is extremely interesting as are the blunders which happened frequently during the CIA's youth.

Surprised Not to See More Reviews

What a great book. If you find the CIA fascinating, then this is a must read. In fact, if you find your country fascinating, you must read this book.
This isn't your typical James Bond, Tom Clancy sort of thing. Get the real stories in just about the perfect amount of detail. The characters are easy to follow and the scenarios do not require a history refresher course to delve into.
The "Four" who did dare are all geniuses and each has played a part in making sure you sleep well at night. Each person is handled deftly and the book follows in a natural chronological order.
The most fascinating part of the book definitely revolves around the Kennedy administration and Bay of Pigs fiasco. Once again, the politics of politics can turn something so clear into a mess.
The best part of the book is that it handles bigger and smaller points equally well. There are many, oh by the way type quick tales, but the larger campaigns are also handled extremely well. You will find yourself paraphrasing stories and anecdotes from this book to your friends. Great after dinner discussion stuff.
Top of my list for recommendation.

tragedy and triumph on a dark stage

Evans crafted a book that doesn't fall into non-fiction traps. Many non-fiction works miss the mark when it comes to drawing a reader in to a book about the Cold War. They show that the OUTRIGGER program was funded at $XX millions and opposed by X liberals in Congress but it collected Y amount of information from the Stassi.

Those are trivial and boring works.

This one doesn't miss at all -- it's a bullseye.

Evan Thomas' The Very Best Men reads like a thriller. You become wrapped up in the lives of Frank Wisner, Richard Bissell, Tracy Barnes and Desmond Fitzgerald and their early work in America's CIA.

Evans' book isn't just a flag waiver. There are low points, and political failures. Notably the Bay of Pigs and the tragic life of Frank Wisner.

One note: I read Robert Littell's The Company before I read this book, and I see where his characters are drawn from. What order is up to you, but if you are a fan of CIA/spy plots, then I'd read both books together for enjoyment.

Comprehensive and engaging book about sex behavior

This book is one of the most informative books about the basic mechanisms underlying sex behavior and sex differences. Forget about Venus and Mars. This book really gets to the basics in a readible and enjoyable fashion. You don't need much biological training to learn a lot from this book (in fact, I skipped Chapter 2 which was a rather dense treatment of hormones, but is a good resource to consult) and didn't have any trouble in later chapters. Learn about how sex differences in behavior arise, and learn about the many ways that hormones have subtle effects on our behavior...

Quite simply, this is the best textbook on hormones and behavior available today. The text is clearly written and enjoyable as well, a rarity in academic textbooks. A must-buy for anyone interested in the the interaction of hormones and behavior.

A Text Book, Really!

This is a true text book. It takes a very diffuicult subject matter and tries to help the reader learn about a topic that can be overwhelming. The book is well written, with good, real-world examples, but it still has very detailed information. Read it if you want to learn more about the endocrine system, and its hormones.
