About the Author
Petra Nix is a lecturer in Financial Communications on the program for Advanced Studies in Corporate Communication at FHNW (University of Applied Sciences of Northwestern Switzerland) in Olten, Switzerland. Prior to this she completed her studies in Business Administration, received her MBA from the University of Rochester and her doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Surrey. She has also completed various post-graduate courses at LBS, IMD and the University of St. Gallen. Petra began her professional career in executive assistant and research functions in various companies in the banking industry, utility and pharmaceutical business. She lead Investor Relations and Financial Communications at Wella AG and VIAG (now: E.ON AG). Following this she became Senior Vice President of Bank Vontobel, Zurich. In 2001 she became Member of the Management Board of Kirchhoff Consult Germany and Managing Director of the Swiss subsidiary. In 2009 she did a MBO of the Swiss subsidiary, which she owns and currently runs. Petra has published many articles for professional journals and has conducted various research studies.

Jean Jinghan Chen is a Chair Professor of Financial Management at Surrey Business School, UK. Prior to this she obtained a PhD in Economics from Lancaster University. Her research interests cover a wide range of topics in the area of financial economics and financial management, in particular, corporate finance and corporate governance, where she has published widely in books and leading academic journals, such as Corporate Governance: An International Review, European Accounting Review, European Financial Management, Journal of Business Research, International Review of Finance and Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics. She serves on the editorial board for the academic journals Corporate Governance: An International Review and Journal of Accounting Studies - A Publication of the Accounting Society of China, and is an associate editor of Nankai Business Review International. She is also a regular reviewer for 6 major international academic journals in financial and economic studies and has delivered international conference plenary/keynote speeches and seminars on topics related to corporate governance, participating in advisory and review bodies.

This book got it right

This is the first book on ethics I've seen which is itself written ethically. Instead of promoting a political or branding agenda, the author gets to the heart of the issue of ethics in the workplace in a thoughtful, thought-provoking and pragmatic way.

It's the 'acid test' (a set of questions to guide us on how to handle an ethical issue) and the painfully realistic examples that sold me on this book. I'll be using the book in my next leadership workshops because ... well ... it lends itself so easily for group discussion.

And as someone who's been in the financial services & Wall Street for most of my career, I can tell you we need serious discussion around this topic. And not just at the 'higher levels.' I firmly agree with the book that buy-in to the idea of ethical business practices comes not from imposing a Code of Conduct or Code of Ethics from the C-suite. It comes from engaging every level of employee in an organization. Sally Bibb gets it, and the book got it right.

A good read

I read this book while creating a master's level module on ethics and risk management for risk professionals. I liked the practical and applied approach of the book and will recommend it to my students. The book could do with a re-edit to improve the reading experience, especially where information is repeated in different sections. The Kindle layout on my iPad was also not great.

Good, but "Artist" is a good alternative

This is a great book with many of Tolkien's most wonderful pictures (those used in a series of LOTR calendars featuring his art), but rather than pay the usually very high price for it (it is long out of print), I would recommend "JRR Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator" (also found on amazon.com), which contains nearly all of the paintings, etc. from "Pictures by JRR Tolkien" in addition to a great many of Tolkien's pictures not included in "Pictures" (200 total, as opposed to "Pictures"'s 47). "Artist" is still in print, so is much more affordable. The only advantage of "Pictures is that it has many of the colored versions of Tolkien's pen-and-ink drawings (colored by H. E. Riddet) not included in "Artist". While the most obsessive Tolkien fans will want both "Pictures" and "Artist", most will be content without the far more expensive (and less inclusive) "Pictures."

Good volume but supplanted by "J. R. R. Tolkien: Author and Illustrator."

First published in 1979, PICTURES BY J. R. R. Tolkien has since been supplanted by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull's J. R. R. Tolkien: Author and Illustrator. The pictures were also published in the Tolkien calenders from 1973 to 1979, save for 1975. The Tolkien estate then authorized a revised version in 1992.

Almost all of the art from Pictures is available in J. R. R. Tolkien: Author and Illustrator and much more. The only material exclusive to this volume is Christopher Tolkien's notes and forward and a very select handful of artwork, so unless you want that or you are a Tolkien collector, I would advise to go with the Author and Illustrator volume.

The Hammand and Scull volume also better elaborate on the role of Tolkien's art in his life. Ultimately, Tolkien was an amateur artist, and I mean that in the best sort of sense. He did not paint professionally, nor was he paid for his artwork. He produced the paintings in his own time (just like his books). In many ways his work is the best about Middle-earth that is around or available. Although Tolkien frequently complained his could not draw, he produced some truly remarkable landscape work, especially the work in the 1998 ROVERANDOM. One of my personal favorites Bilbo floating down the river with the barrels that the Estate used for the 1970s publiation of THE HOBBIT. Tolkien produced some great work in his time and his art is definitely worth checking out, especially if you want to learn more about this fascinating author.

The overview seemed promising but when I began to read the novel I found myself struggling to stay interested. I suppose the overall writing style is to blame as the way things are laid out isn't attention grabbing. Kurt and Elizabeth just seem out of sorts and the "thing" between them feels awkward.

The book is set with Kurt deciding to go under cover on his own terms at Hellfire in order to get answers involving his dead ex-girlfriend. He's attractive, confident, and smart. The DJ of Hellfire is someone he finds himself drawn to. Elizabeth was shaken by the death, not knowing the girl was involved with Kurt.

The two don't work well together and it is an awkward fit. I just really had to force myself to even get halfway through the novel. This was definitely not my cup of tea but that doesn't mean it was terrible. I'm sure there will be people who love and rave about this novel. I am not one of them.

3 Star Romantic Suspense

A girl is found dead on the rocks after a night of hard partying at the hottest nightclub, Hellfire. Resident DJ Dizzy E, real name Elizabeth Jones, is uncomfortable knowing a killer could be out there, Stacey Lee could have been any of them. Kurt is trying to find out about his fiance's death, they may have been separated at the time, but he knows she'd gotten into a different lifestyle in the past several months. He's not assigned to the job, but going undercover at Hellfire is what it is going to take to figure her death out. Owned by a tough motorcycle club known as the Warlords, Kurt is surprised to find himself more than attracted to the DJ. While the case and their chemistry on fire, it could all burn down if Elizabeth figures out who Kurt is.

I have feelings about this book, a lot of feelings, unfortunately they aren't all positive. They also aren't all negative, so that's good. I really liked Elizabeth as a character, although a lot of her beliefs and actions didn't make sense. For a girl who's pretty humble and modest, she sure struts her stuff. Kurt, on the other hand, is one hot cop, even if he moves on from his fiance very quickly. Their relationship is one of instalove, which sucks, cause the lust and chemistry was awesome until love came into play. It progresses quickly and the speed goes against everything the characters are built up to be. The murder story line itself was excellent, I predicted parts of it, but was surprised by others. It plays out slowly, making you questions everyone's motives. Unfortunately, once the twist is revealed it all closes up fairly quickly.

While I wasn't blown away by this book, it is a solid romantic suspense novel. I liked the first 75% a lot, but the ending didn't do it for me. This is the second book in the series, but can easily be read as a standalone.

Georgie Tyler is a new author for me and I had high hopes for Bass. The blurb sounded interesting and caught my attention. Sadly that's about as far as ky attention went.
Once I started to the book, I fought to keep my attention in the tale but was constantly losing focus. The book just didn't keep me interested. And then I struggled to push myself thru it and finish.
I think the idea of the story was intriguing . Im just not so confident that the author was able to really incorporate the mystery needed to really keep the readers attention. There qere some interesting secondary characters that caught my attwntion, I just didn't fall hard for our H and h.
Overall I certainly wouldn't put it in the bad category and I think with some new additions or changes this story could really be alot better. Unfortunately it does take alot more to keep the reader indulged in your story nowadays.

Matthias Hollwich�is an architect and cofounder of the internationally acclaimed architecture firm HWKN. His work has been featured in�Wallpaper*, the�New York Times,�Bauwelt,�Dwell, and�Architectural Digest, and has been awarded the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Award. He began his research into aging as part of a collaboration between HWKN, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Bauhaus Foundation Dessau.

Good overview; easy to read; Serves as a good starting point

People criticize the format and simplicity, but depending on your situation, that is also one of its strengths. I think this book is great for younger/middle aged people who haven't thought much about aging. It is easy to get through and will generate some ideas and awareness that can be used as a springboard for more detailed research. This isn't a detailed reference source for the "how to" part of that, but that's OK. The line of thought in this book is very much a "new aging" relative to how Americans and many other countries have approached it traditionally. Some people probably translate that into being not practical.

The Raccolta is a book, published from 1807 to 1950, that listed Roman Catholic prayers and other acts of piety, such as novenas, for which specific indulgences were granted by Popes. The Raccolta (literally meaning "collection" in Italian) is an abbreviation of its full title: Raccolta delle orazioni e pie opere per le quali sono sono concedute dai Sommi Pontefici le SS. Indulgenze ("Collection of Prayers and Good Works for Which the Popes Have Granted Holy Indulgences"). The text was in Italian, with the prayers themselves given in Latin. The book was first published in 1807 by Telesforo Galli, in assoociation with the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences and Holy Relics, with successive editions in 1810, 1812, 1814, 1818, 1825, 1831, 1834, 1837, 1841, 1844 and 1849. Following official approval by a Decree of 15 December 1854, later editions were issued directly as publications of the Holy See by the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences and Holy Relics (which in the reform of the Roman Curia by Pope Pius X was united with the Sacred Congregation of Rites. A general revision was carried out in 1877, declaring that the revision alone was from then on authoritative. Later editions of this were produced in 1886 and 1898. Approval of the Roman Congregation was required for publishing a complete translation of the work.
