Helpful, useful, and a good read
By new teacher
Falk tells the story of creating a school that wanted to be responsive to the needs of the children in the community as well as the parents. She describes policies and different positions that are now common to schools (such as a Parent Coordinator) that was first introduced in the Bronx New School. Falk highlights a handful of teachers and discusses their practices and their areas of strength to give a detailed view of what happened in their classrooms.
As a new teacher, this book was both inspiring and helpful in giving me pictures of good teaching practice. There are many books out there that explain similar things, but Falk describes how the teachers arrived at these practices; what they observed in their students' needs and interests and how they used that information to build curriculum and a classroom culture. A great read for any teacher or person involved in schools!

Teaching the Way Children Learn
By Lee
Dr Falk's book although simply written captures the essence of the art of teaching. It demonstrates to us what is the meaning of curriculum and how it is developed in a supportive and caring environment. This book has opened dialogue in our school by encouraging us to reflect on our teaching practices. In this way, it is an indispensable guide for young teachers and a useful reference for veteran teachers.
