About the Author
Kevyn Aucoin's faces appeared in editorial features, fashion shows, music videos, and advertising campaigns as well as on the covers of virtually every major magazine. He was a guest on many television programs, including Oprah , the Today show, Good Morning America , VH-I's Fashion Television , MTV's House of Style and Entertainment Tonight . His client roster read like a Who's Who of the entertainment world's elite: this list included Sharon Stone, Whitney Houston, Linda Evangelista, Mary Tyler Moore, Cindy Crawford, Elizabeth Hurley and Bette Midler, among many, many others. Along with the numerous accolades he received is a special award from the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), the first and only time such an honor was bestowed on a makeup artist. The author of the bestselling book The Art of Makeup , resided in New York City. Kevyn Aucoin passed away in May 2002.

Love, love, love!!

One of my absolute favorite books! Kevyn Aucoin is a makeup genius!! I purchased the paperback in good used condition and it's perfect! I love the vintage feel I get from it, but the condition is as good as new! Would recommend to any makeup artist or enthusiast! Lots of great ideas and just a really cool book to have! I love keeping mine on my coffee table, I have all 3 of his books and they always spark up a great conversation when I have friends over! Find my review helpful? Please click "helpful". Fun Guide for Makeup Enthusiants

I am not nor do I aspire to be a professional makeup artist. I saw this book at friend's house in the 1990's and had flipped through it and later noticed something about this friend...she was plain looking. Until we went out on the town. One night she looked like Marilyn Monroe, the next she looked like some other movie star. I remembered this book years later, and put it together that she was likely using the book as a guide to achieve looks so different than her natural one.
Sure people say 'he says he's not using makeup but I can see makeup on the face' and other lines, but as far as creating fun looks with step-by-step instructions with photos for reference I think this book is fantastic. It would look great on my coffee table, but it normally resides on my vanity where I use it often!

Beautiful book, excellent tutorials - so much fun to read!!

This is a beautiful book. Physically, it is large and is filled with gorgeous photographs of different make up looks, tutorials, models, etc. It's a great coffee table book even if you are not into make up technique. That said, I bought this book for the make up tutorials and was so happy to find that it is so much more - Aucoin gives a great introduction and the beginning of the book focuses on tools, face shapes, what looks best, etc. It's loaded with interesting information. Subsequent chapters break down different looks for different occasions. I am a make up and product junkie but really not the type to buy a book about it - which is so funny bc I have referenced this book a million times over the years for different ideas for fun events - New Year's, a masquerade party or just to switch things up a little. Everytime I open the cover, I find myself lingering over the book, engrossed again in old chapters.....definitely check this out if you are interested in make up application, techniques or seeing how one of the (late) great masters did it.
